By now, most people have read how nesting dolls originated and how they are all hand painted by very particular artists using very small brushes to make an entire set come to life. All that is great but I wanted to explore some rather odd ideas for nesting dolls that I am not sure have been created (this could be a great idea for someone with an artistic flare who can bring a couple of these sets to life for us). I have been thinking about this for a while and am now ready to announce these ideas to the world, so here we go.

Famous familes from the television should make for terrific doll sets. These are the nostalgaic familes that we all grew up with and hold near and dear in our hearts. The Brady Bunch would be in the very first set and from smallest to highest featuring each of the 6 kids along with Alice and Mom and Dad. I think these doll sets would be a great way to honor the greatest television family of all time and shoudl naturally be great sellers. The Partridge family would be the next great set of dolls. The manager, Rueben Kincaid, should be included along with our favorite TV mom, Shirley Jones. The Hillbillies of Bevery Hills are also in line to make a great set of dolls, including Miss Hathawy and the banker to offer a complete set.

Next up would be the greatest sports teams in history. Babe Ruth with the great Yankee teams and another of the terrific Celtics of Boston would be a great set of dolls. The Big Red machine, to cater to people from the midwest, woudl sell well and serve as way to reach out to more geographic areas of the country. Another great team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, is deserving of having a doll set made for them even though some people may laugh at the idea of having such tough guys made into collectible doll sets.

I would also include a hall-of-fame set where you might be able to take any sport and make up dolls of a couple of years of hall-of-fame inductees. I think these would also sell well because a person could do a set for every sport, so there are lots of great groups to select from to start sets. You could even have a set devoted to people who are not in the hall of fame but who should be. Players like Davey Concepcion of the Big Red Machine comes to mind.

I think small groups would be interested in having a doll set commissioned of themselves. While a little pompous, many corporate executive teams are so full of themselves that a doll set might be right in line with their self rewards, particularly after a great year. For a great keepsake idea, I think that many small organizations such as churches, executive teams and even families would enjoy having a doll set made of all of them in a single set. Having fun with someone else’s problems may be more fun and enjoy better sales, however. I am thinking that Enron executives and several Wall Street firms doll sets would sell well at the moment, despite all the trouble those firms are currently in.
