For all the warriors out there, airsoft is one hobby that fills a great need and desire. War type games with airsoft are fun, exciting and bring to life hours of strategic fun.

Airsoft games can be simple backyard events to elaborate war time settings from the many commercial facilities that offer them. The guns that exist for airsoft play are military replicas that are realistic in look and feel. Beginners can start with a couple of airsoft weapons and a vest for protection. A good idea is to get with someone who has been involved in the hobby for some time and can teach you the ropes. There are 3 models of airsoft guns available, some low quality and of course the high end models, all of which use different mechanisms to make the guns fire.

These types are powered by a spring. Because they work off a spring, a manual cock of the firing mechanism is required with each shot that is taken. These are the cheapest models and less powerful than the gas and electric ones. They make a great kind of training gun for beginners because they are uncomplicated to operate, durable and easily obtainable.

Gas Powered Airsoft Guns

The gas models use a cartridge that is powered by gas, which is what powers the shot. They are heavier and harder to handle than the other two types. But, they do offer an advantage over the spring loaded ones because they are able to offer a semi automatic feel and you can shoot a few times before you need to replace the small CO2 cartridge.

The Electric Airsoft Gun

These are top of the line in airsoft and use a motor to power the shot. They require batteries, usually 4 of the AAA type, or some come with rechargeable batteries. They are very popular, especially with advanced hobbyists because they can fire up to a 1000 rounds per minute.

These models are the most durable and easiest to use. They provide quick reloads, and quick shots. They are the most realistic models, staying true to actual military grade weapons. The AK-47 is one popular model of electric airsoft gun, which has both auto and semi-auto firing capability.
